Hack to Fly and Drive: Building a Flight and Racing Simulator on a Budget

Sim rigs are awesome until you see the price tag. In this talk, I’ll share my ongoing project to build both a racing and flight simulator on a realistic hacker’s budget using creativity, open source tools, and access to a hackerspace instead of a pile of cash. I’ll walk through how I’ve been sourcing affordable components, printing parts at Sector67, and combining off-the-shelf gear with DIY solutions that actually work. From flight controls and pedals to seat frames and screens, I’ll cover what worked, what didn’t, and what’s still on the wish list as I slowly expand from racing and trucking into flight. This talk is for anyone who wants to experience simulation without going broke, blending hacker spirit, maker resourcefulness, and a lot of trial and error. Expect practical lessons, creative problem solving, and maybe a few crashes along the way.
